(Houston, TX) – Tony Soerries, of Spring, is the new leader
of the South Mid-Amateur Championship after the completion of Saturday’s second
round.  Soerries leads after 36 holes at
1-under par 143.  CLUB CHAMPION is the
presenting sponsor for the second regional championship of the season at
Houston’s Sterling Country Club.

Shaun Helmle of Seabrook, who lead after the first round
with score of 3-under par 69, had another good round in today’s championship
shooting 3-over par 75 bringing his 36-hole total to 144 which puts him in 2nd
place at even par.

Ryan Clarke and Chris Causey, both of Houston, as well as Pasadena’s
Broc Haymon all had notable round 2 scores, as they were the only competitors
in the field other than the leader Soerries to shoot even par or better. Clarke
sits in 3rd place with a 36-hole total of 1-over par 145. Causey
jumped three spots up the leader board to put sole possession of 4th
place with a 36-hole total of 2-over par 146.

begin Sunday at 8:00AM off of holes #1 and #10. Sunday’s round has the makings
of an exciting finish with ten players sitting seven shots or better of Soerries.
Players will be looking to position themselves for South Regional Player of the
Year points as well as claim the title of South Mid-Amateur Champion.
