TYLER, TEXAS — Jansen Smith, Shaheen Momin and Hailey Jones earn Player of the Year honors on the Legends Junior Tour for their sensational play throughout 2017. Luke Dossey was the recipient of the James A. Ragan Sportsmanship Award and Chuck Flowers was honored as the LJT’s Volunteer of the Year.

Smith was a three-time winner on tour this year, including a big win at the 91st Texas State Junior Championship when he holed out for an eagle on the last hole of the event. The San Angelo native also won at the Alamo Shootout in San Antonio and at the North Texas Classic in Dallas. The three wins were his first victories in the Boys 15-18 Division of the LJT. Smith also finished tied for second at the Collegiate Preview and tied for third at the Bluebonnet Championship. Along with his two other top-10 finishes on tour, Smith won the North Texas PGA’s 54-hole tournament in June.

Sugarland’s Momin won at the Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic at Lakecliff Golf Club in March and added a runner-up finish at the Spring Preview. He tallied three third-place finishes in 2017; the Texas State Junior Championship, the Bluebonnet Championship and the Fall Challenge at Traditions.

Jones is the first player to win Player of the Year three times on the Legends Junior Tour. Dallas’ own has won three consecutive awards after winning three times on tour in 2017. Jones was victorious at the Winter Classic, the Alamo Shootout and the North Texas Classic. Along with her three wins, she was runner-up at the Texas State Junior Championship, the George Hannon Junior Invitational and the Jimmy Demaret Junior Classic. Jones finished top five in nine events this year.

Dossey was voted as the LJT’s James A. Ragan Sportsman of the year. The award is given annually to the player who is characterized by virtues such as fairness, discipline, courage, persistence and respect for others. Dossey competed in 10 events on the Legends Junior Tour in 2017 and finished second in the Player of the Year standings. The Austin-native won the Byron Nelson Junior Championship and finished runner-up at the Flodder Financial Shootout. Dossey also tied for fourth at the George Hannon Junior Invitational.

Flowers was awarded the LJT’s Volunteer of the Year in 2017 after working 37 tournament days this season. Flowers currently resides in Wylie, Texas where he is retired. He worked nine events on the LJT schedule in 2017 including the Bluebonnet Championship, the Texas State Junior Championship, the Girls Invitational, the Texas cup and his first Jackie Burke Cup.
