DALLAS – Pierceson Coody stood on the first tee this morning with only one thing in mind: winning the Byron Nelson Junior. And that’s exactly what he did.
Coody’s putter was hot in the final round, allowing him to drop three 20-footers for birdie. He had eight birdies total for the round, leading him to shoot a 4-under 67. He finished the tournament at 7-under, which was enough to win by three shots.
Winning the Byron Nelson Junior makes two in a row for Coody, who just came off a win at the AJGA Thunderbird International Junior last week. The Thunderbird is a prestigious national invitational tournament.
“I’ve put in a lot of work to make my putting and my ball striking a lot more consistent and it’s paid off early,” said Coody.
Coody was wearing the same outfit that he wore in the final round of the Thunderbird. He said it had a 100% success rate so he wasn’t going to risk not wearing it again this week. He said he will be wearing it for his all of his final rounds until it stops working.
Gaven Lane also fired a 4-under 67 in his final round. Lane tied for 2ndwith round 1 co-leader, Jansen Smith, who shot even par in the final round.
William Paysee shot 3-under to tie for 4thwith Brandon Hoff. Andre Jacobs and Cole Sherwood finished tied for 6th. Luke Dossey and Parker Coody finished tied for 8th. Vishnu Sadagopan finished solo in 10th.
