Mansfield – A field of 84 contestants played 18 holes today on the Pecan Course at Walnut Creek Country Club. Marian Barker of Lubbock and playing partner Joanna Davis of Georgetown lead the first flight as well as the entire field with a score of even-par 71. Barker and Davis are the 2017 Women’s Texas Pinehurst defending champions.
Pinehurst is a unique tournament because of the playing format. Two players play as partners, each playing from the teeing ground and each playing her partner's ball for the second shot. After the second shot, partners select the ball with which they wish to score and play the ball alternately to complete the hole.
In the second flight, Sherri Buster of Westlake and playing partner Kimberly Little of Houston lead with a 5-over, 76. The third flight is lead by Olivia Campbell of Franklin and playing partner Becky Gustamante of Montgomery. They shot 10-over, 81. Leading the fourth flight is Mollie Hammonds and Ellen Wallace both of Houston, with a score of 13-over, 84. In the fifth flight, Julie Owens and Myndee Billingsley, playing their home course, lead the flight with a 9-over score of 80.
The Texas Golf Association would like to extend its sincere gratitude to the membership and staff at Walnut Creek Country Club for their hard work and hospitality throughout the event.
