Golf Course: The Masters Course is one of three championship courses at Brookhaven Country Club. It was built in 1959 and designed by Press Maxwell with the help of one of golf’s legendary icons, the great Byron Nelson. In the early 1990s, Jeff Brauer renovated the track creating tight, tree lined fairways with large, strategically placed bunkers.
Weather: Temperatures reached a high of 90 degrees, with little to no wind.
In contention: In the Boys 15-18 division, Matthew Comegys of Plano carded five birdies on the day and leads after the first round with a score of 3-under par 69. Lubbock’s Landry Schmoker, Dallas’ Michael Heidelbaugh and San Antonio’s Joshua Lim sit one shot back of Comegys and are tied for 2nd place.
Three sit atop the leaderboard in the Boys 14 & Under division. Sunay Jay, Andrew Petruzzelli, and Grant Yerger all carded 3-over 75s. San Antonio’s Nathan Marion sits in fourth place, just one shot back of the trio.
In the Girl’s 12-18 division, Gabbi Bentancourt and Nicole Vivier lead by one shot heading into Tuesday’s final round after even-par 72s. Bentancourt had a pair of birdies and bogeys, while Vivier had a trio of birdies and bogeys. Isaac sits alone in third place after a 1-over 73. Jordan Karrh had the shot of the day with a hole-in-one on the 17th hole with a 5-iron, 158 yards.
What’s Next: Final round tee times start tomorrow at 7:30 AM off both No. 1 & 10 tees. Awards for the top five finishers in the Boy’s 15-18 division, and top three in both the Boy’s 14 & under and Girl’s 12-18 divisions will be presented following the conclusion of the final round.
