WICHITA FALLS – The 2019 Jackie Burke Cup teams are set as the North and South will square off for the 15th time at Wichita Falls Country Club Nov. 9-10.
“The Legends Junior Tour boasts some of the best talent in the state of Texas and the kids that qualified for the Jackie Burke Cup have proven themselves worthy of competing at this level,” Legends Junior Tour Tournament Director Kevin Porter said. “These players have consistently finished toward the top all season and get a chance to compete with each other in a team event and have some fun to finish off another great LJT season.”
The North Team has won the last five Jackie Burke Cup matches and evened the overall series 7-7 last year at Moody Gardens Golf Course. Leading the North Team in 2019 is Temple’s Dallas Hankamer, who finished runner-up in the Boys 15-18 Player of the Year Standings, followed by Argyle’s Gaven Lane, Lubbock’s Brian Boles, Plano’s Matthew Comegys, Lantana’s Brody Hanley, Frisco’s Henry Frizzell and Colleyville’s Kevin Watts. The North Team will also be represented by Trophy Club’s Estelle Seon, who finished runner-up in the Girls 12-18 Player of the Year Standings, followed by Gabbi Bentancourt of Frisco. From the Boys 14 & Under Division, Ben Delarosa and Andrew Petruzzelli of Dallas will round out this year’s team. Grace Do of Coppell will captain the 2019 North Team.
The South Team, which looks to win its first Jackie Burke Cup since 2013, will be captained by Annika Clark of Highlands. The 2019 squad will consist of Boys 15-18 Player of the Year Shaheen Momin of Sugar Land and Boys 14 & Under Player of the Year Grant Yerger of Driftwood. Following the two divisional Player of the Year recipients are Davis Archer of The Woodlands, Zach Heffernan of Fair Oaks Ranch, Treed Huang of Katy, Hanseung Chang of Cedar Park, Jacob Salazar of League City, Jackson Davenport and Zach Kingsland of Austin, Elina Sinz of Katy, Tillie Claggett of The Woodlands and Trenton Mierl of Austin.
The Jackie Burke Cup consists of three rounds of matches as teams of 12 players tee off against each other. Matches are worth two points and a tied match is split: one point for each team. The matches start with six Four-Ball matches Saturday morning followed by six Foursome matches in the afternoon.
On Sunday, players are selected for 12 Singles Matches, leaving 48 possible points to be earned throughout the weekend. The North Team will need 24 points to retain the cup, while the South Team will need 25 points to win the cup.
This year’s Jackie Burke Cup will be contested at Wichita Falls Country Club. The course will host the matches for the first time and join a distinguished list of clubs including Champions Golf Club, Whispering Pines Golf Club, Brook Hollow Golf Club, Spanish Oaks Golf Club, Bent Tree Country Club, Miramont Golf Club, Escondido Golf Club and Traditions Club.
There will be a banquet for players on Friday, Nov. 8, when pairings for Saturday morning will be announced along with the Player of the Year awards and the 2019 James A. Ragan Sportsman of the Year. For more information on the Jackie Burke Cup, click here.
